Stephen Foster BSc (Hons) PhD FCA

Managing Director

Stephen qualified in London and moved to the West Country in the early 1990s. He became a partner in a local firm of accountants before setting up his own practice in 2003. The firm grew by the purchase of the existing practices of Blomfield & Co and Ekins & Co, Trowbridge.

His forward thinking has enabled him to build up a great team at Blomfields who take care of clients’ accounts and finances, and also have a pro-active approach helping them to develop and grow their businesses.

In his spare time Stephen enjoys growing vegetables in his garden and allotment and is often seen cycling to work all year round!

Irene Burford BA (Hons) FCA

Director

Irene is originally from Newcastle upon Tyne. After graduating from Leeds University, she started her career in general practice in Leeds in 1985, working for a number of small to medium sized accountancy firms in West Yorkshire, including Howarth Clark Whitehill. She moved to Wiltshire in 1993.

Irene has over 20 years' general practice experience and has a wide ranging accounts and tax knowledge. She has extensive experience in helping a wide variety of businesses from small sole traders through to plcs. Irene specialises in audit, particularly the charity sector, as well as clubs and associations. She is one of the practice's first contact for new start-ups, and advises on all aspects of business life cycles, accounting systems, corporate and personal taxation, as well as dealing with HMRC investigations.

She is a Chartered Accountant and a Director of Blomfields.

Irene and her family spend a lot of their spare time hill-walking with Lexy the office dog. Lexy ensures a warm welcome to everyone visiting us.

Katy Bowes ACA

Audit Manager

Katy left school after completing her A levels to pursue a career in accountancy. She started work as an accounting trainee, achieving AAT and ACCA qualifications whilst working in local practices in Wiltshire. During her career to date, Katy has gained an excellent knowledge of local businesses.

Katy’s experience covers a wide range of business sectors. She has a strong background in accounts preparation and taxation, and specialises in audit and compliance for both profit and not for profit organisations. Her experience ranges from training and assisting with bookkeeping, to working on both internal and external audit projects, including assignments such as writing specialist audit procedures for entities partaking in grant claims. Katy also has in-depth working knowledge and experience in bloodstock and agricultural accounting.

She is a Chartered Certified Accountant and is Audit Manager at Blomfields.

Away from work, Katy is kept busy with a young family. She enjoys gardening, growing her own vegetables and on-going house renovations.

Nathalie Hobbs

Accounts Assistant

Nathalie has worked in the accountancy profession for a number of years, previously for Ekins & Co, Trowbridge, which was bought by Blomfields in 2006. She brought to Blomfields her extensive administration and accountancy skills and has been central to the growth of our payroll and bookkeeping service.

She deals with monthly and weekly payroll and looks after VAT/bookkeeping clients, as well as Xero bookkeeping and accounting clients. She also has responsibility for the electronic filing of all Self Assessment, Partnership and Company Tax returns.

Nathalie has been known to play piano for the Old Time Music Hall based in Radstock.

The office would not operate without her!

Ness Bowers

Client & Tax Credit Manager

Ness joined Blomfields in 2010 and had previously worked for HMRC for 22 years. For the last 5 years at HMRC she specialised in Tax Credits. She has now introduced a Tax Credit service at Blomfields. She also brings with her a wealth of knowledge from HMRC including Self Assessment and PAYE.

She provides accountancy, tax and payroll support to clients.

Ness’s interests away from the office include badminton and going to music/pop concerts.

Jo Blackburn ATT

Tax Manager

Jo began her career in tax in 1991 when she joined HM Revenue & Customs in Frome. She worked for HMRC in various roles, including work on the pilot Self Assessment computer system. Jo has over 8 years’ experience with HMRC. She joined Blomfields in July 2003 where she runs the tax department, gaining her ATT qualification in 2006. She also deals with payroll. Jo has built up good customer relationships over her years at Blomfields and always enjoys meeting new clients.

Away from work, Jo is kept busy with two young children. She enjoys running, cooking and spending time with her family.

Jenny Tong MAAT

Client Manager

Jenny joined Blomfields in 2011 after working as an assistant accountant for 3 years in Bath, Somerset. She qualified as AAT in 2009 and is currently studying towards her ACCA qualification. The majority of her work concerns the preparation of statutory accounts and tax returns for limited companies, partnership and sole traders and audit assignments. Jenny prides herself in giving a professional and personal service to our clients.

Away from the office, Jenny lives in the pretty village of West Lavington, where she enjoys looking after her garden, home grown vegetables and cooking traditional Chinese food.

Samantha Blanchard

Client Manager

Samantha originally joined Blomfields back in 2004. After leaving for a brief time to work from home she came back in October 2013.

She is AAT qualified and the majority of her work is preparing accounts and Tax returns for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies,as well as bookkeeping and Vat Returns.

Away from work Samantha enjoys reading and spending time with friends and family.

Stella Shephard

Stella graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in Business Studies and has worked in the industry for 18 years.

She joined Blomfields in 2016, studying for her final year of AAT. The majority of work undertaken includes bookkeeping and VAT returns.

In her spare time Stella enjoys watching her son play rugby, archery and visiting the coast.

Robin Hughes

Robin joined the Blomfields team in May 2014 after working for the Inland Revenue and H.M. Revenue & Customs in Wells for the previous 28 years. Robin has taken on the role of payroll manager running our comprehensive payroll portfolio and brings with him a wealth of experience from working in PAYE, Self-Assessment, tax credits and national insurance and is a valuable addition to our team.

Away from work Robin enjoys keeping fit by running, swimming and cycling and has competed in triathlons, half marathons and the London marathon.

Jen Spencer

Jen joined Blomfields as receptionist/administrator in August 2016, after having been a self-employed bookkeeper for 12 years, whilst her family were young. Prior to that Jen has worked in accounting offices in Wiltshire.

Away from work Jen enjoys horse riding, walking, cycling and eating out.

Heidi Andrews

Heidi joined Blomfields in September 2016, with 30 years’ experience in bookkeeping and accounting, the majority of her work is preparing accounts and tax returns for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Limited Companies.

Away from work Heidi is a classic motorcycle enthusiast.
